3 design tips for an easy-to-clean kitchen

Everybody wants to have a beautiful kitchen. But you can choose the slickest and most expensive kitchen design in the marketplace, and it won't stay looking beautiful unless it is easy to keep clean. The kitchen is a room in the house that serves a functional purpose every day, and it's a room where mess is created every day too. This is why it's imperative that you take into consideration how easily you can clean your kitchen before installing units, countertops, and appliances. Here are some design considerations that will make your kitchen easier to clean.

Say goodbye to tiles. Tiles are a popular choice in a kitchen. They can be used on countertops, on walls, and on floors too, making them an extremely versatile choice. They can also come in a wide variety of materials such as ceramic, porcelain, and glass, so you can create different visual effects with tiles. So why are they an enemy to cleanliness? Because that area of grout between every tile is really hard to get into and remove dirt from. This means that you won't be able to wipe a tiled surface clean easily – it takes some effort. Those grooves between the tiles will harbour germs and become discoloured over time.

Install a backsplash. When designing a kitchen, you need to consider where the mess is actually created. If you are somebody who likes to cook on the stove, making pasta sauces and one-pot curries, there will invariably be sprays from the pot that lands on the walls. To prevent long term staining on your kitchen wall, it is advisable to install a splashback. These can be installed in all kinds of materials such as marble, ceramic, or glass. Glass is a good option for a contemporary design as lights can be installed within the splashback itself.

Consider your sink area. When you are cleaning your kitchen or washing the dishes, the sink area will be in heavy use, so it's important to consider the design of this area carefully. First of all, an integrated sink that is level with the surface of the countertop can promote cleanliness because debris from the countertop can be wiped straight into the sink without any barrier. And if you have a large family home and washing the dishes is a significant task, it can be a good idea to install a double sink so that one sink can be used for soaping the dishes and the other can be used for rinsing.
